Hibi's journey began with merging two age-old industries in the Hyogo Prefecture of Japan: the incense of Awaji Island and the matches of Harima. In 2011, these two traditional trades came together in a unique collaboration. The initial concept was to create an incense that could be ignited like a match, leading to three years of experimentation and innovation. Due to the fragility of Japanese incense, a special solution had to be devised. A special blend of incense and washi pulp was crafted, resulting in a durable yet fragrant product that could withstand being struck like a match.

The selection of product names and packaging was carefully crafted to reflect Japan's modern sensibilities. These elements were all part of a deliberate design process aimed at reinventing how we experience fragrance.

Hibi is the Japanese word for "day to day" or "daily". The intention behind giving it to you is that you will incorporate hibi incense into your daily routine and enjoy its scent as you see fit for each day's mood or event. The logo features two Chinese characters for "day" placed side by side.

It is made from the incense of Awaji Island and matches from Harima. It is the result of the meeting of two traditional crafts from Hyogo prefecture.
